So we all have heard the story of King Midas, everything he touched turned to gold. Unfortunately I don't share that ability with him because apparently everything I touch turns to a blue screen!
My girlfriend was over this weekend and she's been applying to new jobs recently. She's been updating her resume and CV and has put a lot of time and effort into it. So she asked me to put a second set of eyes on them. I reach for her laptop and the moment, literally 1/8 of a second after I grab it, the whole thing blue screens!
My immediate reaction: OH GOD I BROKE IT!
Her immediate reaction: HOLY SH*T YOU BROKE IT!
So what did we do? Well we only had one option, let it reboot and hope all the files were still there. Luckily after about 10 minutes of rebooting it came back to life and all of her files were there. All her time and energy hadn't been wasted.
But what would happen if your system blue screens in the middle of you working on a video project? Are you confident that your files will still be there or are you hanging onto hope that when your system comes back up your files will come with it?
If you're hanging onto hopes about the safety of your files you need to start looking into some system of backup and recovery. Otherwise your hard work, time and money are at risk of disappearing unexpectedly. If all it took was a touch to blue screen a computer, just imagine the countless other things out there that can cause your files to be at risk.
