Here's a question you probably didn't expect. Does Magic Fairy Dust increase performance on a video network?
What do you think? Because I highly doubt it. I'm more convinced that a lot of vendors want you to believe that. So let's take a look at what actually causes performance.
There are two things to look at when it comes to performance:
We'll start with the individual workstations, they need a high-quality 10G NIC set up by somebody who knows what they are doing.
A lot of vendors, including ProMAX perform Network Performance Tuning so does this really matter? It helps, performance tuning is real and it helps, but its the 20% not the 80%. So when you want to maximize an individual workstation make sure it has that 10G NIC and make sure a professional sets it up. Any performance tuning on top of that is just icing on the cake.
Now when it comes to your aggregate network performance, check out our Maximum vs. Sustained Performance blog. This will help you understand how to read specs from vendors.
To maximize the performance on your aggregate network you'll need two things.
If you can afford SSD's, go SSD especially when you are looking to improve sustained performance over a long period of time. It makes a huge difference and nothing will get you better performance than having more drives. It's pretty simple, having 24 drives in your system will net you better performance than having 16 drives.
So max out those drives, get high quality 10G NICs, work with companies that know how to set these things up and you will have awesome performance.
